Coal-to-Natural-Gas Demonstration Project

Dominion is also seeking solutions to the climate change problem through a a project at its Brayton Point Power Station in Massachusetts. Brayton Point will become the site of a large-scale demonstration project that is designed to convert biomass, coal and petroleum coke into separate streams of natural gas — to be used to generate electricity — and carbon dioxide.

This separation will greatly reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other substances such as mercury and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

The project could be an important step toward cost-effectively ensuring the nation's energy supply and ultimately helping coal-fired power stations deal with the greenhouse gas issue.

Great Point Energy of Cambridge, Mass. will construct the demonstration facility and a research and development center at Brayton Point.
