Hydro Power

Dominion also harnesses the power of falling water to produce energy. We operate two large hydroelectric projects in North Carolina. Together, the Gaston and Roanoke Rapids power stations can produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 80,000 homes.

Our Bath County Pumped Storage Station is cradled in Virginia's rugged Allegheny Mountains.

This huge generating station goes into operation when demand is high. Tunnels carry water from a mountaintop reservoir to turn six 350-megawatt turbine generators. The facility is currently undergoing an overhaul that will increase the plant's generating capacity by 8 percent.
